People for Ethical Treatment to Animals (Peta) in its effort to draw
attention to cruelty towards fish, will soon launch its new
advertisement.
A dog with a fishhook impaled in its lip, with a tagline. If you
wouldn't do this to a dog, why do it to a fish, will soon be seen
in newspapers, magazines and on billboards.
Fish are an intelligent species and deserve compassion, eating
fish is dangerous to your health. Fishing for commercial purpose or
as a sport both harm the environment, said Anuradha Sawhney, chief
functionary Peta.
Scientific research confirms that fish are sensitive and intelligent.
A recent issue of Fish and Fisheries, cited more than 500 research
papers on fish intelligence, proving that fish are smart, that they
can use tools, and that they have impressive long-term memory and
sophisticated social structures. Sawhney added.
According to the Peta functionaries, Since there is no law for the
treatment of fish, both commercial fishers and fish farmers treat
them in a cruel manner.
Fish are dragged from the bottom of the ocean and have to undergo
excruciating decompression. Due to the intense pressure their swim-
bladders are often damaged and their eyes pop out pushing their
stomach through their mouth. Also while being tossed on to the ship
decks, many are crushed to death.
Similar is the situation with the factory-farmed fish. Though farmers
use antibiotics to grow the fish and keep them alive 40 per cent of
the farmed fish die even before slaughter.
A press release of Peta states that fish is not a health food. Like
the flesh of other animals, fish also contains excessive amounts of
protein, fat and cholesterol that cause heart disease, strokes and
various types of cancer. Also, due to high levels of water pollution
bacteria like E coli can be passed on to humans who eat fish from
these waters.
PETA should stand for: People Exterminating Terrified Animals - And now We the People can include FISH in that category as well.

PETA and why I dislike them (With Facts to Back it up!)
I recently put up a post regarding why I dislike PETA and similar organizations despite the fact that they are defacto terrorist organizations place more importance on the life of a 3-legged, half retarded species of geckos. I had a partially rabid pro-PETA blogger named Megan, write 9 comments claiming Hunters did not lead to the creation of wildlife areas, public parks, public lands and generate nearly $100 Billion dollars in funds solely for the above purposes.Megan is another mis-guided person who has done ZERO studying of the following facts:
1) President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was the one of the leading politicians that actually spearheaded the creation of the State parks (Yosemite, Big Sur, etc..) and he was by far one of the biggest and most well known hunters of the days past. His co-op with Railroad giants (landowners of huge tracts of land) lead to creation of these public lands and some of earliest game laws.
2) It was hunters who created the bills and lobbied to get them passed in Congress during the height of the Great Depression that put restrictions on hunting, licensing fees and developed funds solely dedicated to land restoration and preservation (preservation is the WISE use of natural resources).
3) The Pittman-Robertson act was created and pushed by hunters to place an excise tax on all firearms, once again to support the public lands and law enforcement to curb illegal hunting.
4) Legalized hunting has NEVER lead to the extinction of any species since the creation of the modern hunting laws (early 1900's)
5) Hunting organizations like the Rocky Mountain Elk club (non-profit organization funded only by private donations) have purchased and maintain more private property than any animals rights organization to help restore and maintain record numbers of animals once brought nearly to extinction by urbanization of the wildlife areas.
6) All 50 states do help manage animal populations with funds created and supplied by HUNTERS and fishermen who purchase their licenses. The animal populations are kept in check with the support of biologist (also funded by licenses) to determine the number of animals that would need to be harvested. The harvesting of animals such as deer accomplish several things: 1. Supplies a of source of food for those who wish to hunt 2. generates funds that support local economy's.
7) Canned hunting or caged hunting is highly illegal and all moral hunters do not support such activities as it violates the "fair chase" ethics of a hunt. If the animal is not given the chance to flee and is cornered or caged to be shot, it is illegal regardless of the state.
8) Hunters (and fisherman) also are responsible for helping law enforcement and wildlife managers maintain public land areas and they are the eyes and ears on the illegal doings of pot growers. The last report I read stated (ATF/DEA) that somewhere around 55-70% of all illegal operations are discovered and reported by hunters and fishers. Members of several animal rights organizations have been indicted for several farms used to grow pot and fund illegal eco-terrorism activities.
I will now list below a few things that I know about Eco-terrorist organizations:
1) PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her groups overall goal as total animal liberation. This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals.
2) Despite its constant moralizing about the unethical treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers, and countless other Americans, PETA has killed over 14,400 dogs and cats at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. During 2005, PETA put to death over 90 percent of the animals it collected from members of the public.
3) PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals. This includes a 2001 donation of $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front (ELF), an FBI-certified domestic terrorist group responsible for dozens of firebombs and death threats. During the 1990's, PETA paid $70,200 to an Animal Liberation Front (ALF) activist convicted of burning down a Michigan State University research laboratory. In his sentencing recommendation, a federal prosecutor implicated PETA president Ingrid Newkirk in that crime. And PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that “blowing stuff up and smashing windows is a great way to bring about animal liberation.
4) PETA activists regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents. One piece of kid-targeted PETA literature tells small children: “Your Mommy Kills Animals! PETA brags that its messages reach over 2 million children every year, including thousands reached by e-mail without the permission of their parents. One PETA vice president told the Fox News Channel audience:Our campaigns are always geared towards children, and they always will be.
5) PETA has used a related organization, the PETA Foundation, to fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information. PCRM's president also serves as president of the PETA Foundation.
6) PETA runs campaigns seemingly calculated to offend religious believers. One entire PETA web site is devoted to the claim-despite ample evidence to the contrary-that Jesus Christ was a vegetarian. PETA holds protests at houses of worship, even suing one church that tried to protect its members from Sunday-morning harassment. Its billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs “died for their sins. PETA insists, contrary to centuries of rabbinical teaching, that the Jewish ritual of kosher slaughter shouldn't be allowed. And its infamous “Holocaust on Your Plate campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals.
7) PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.
